What is a guardian home?

A guardian home is more than just a placement—it’s a partnership based on trust. As a guardian, you provide a forever home to one of our top-quality future breeding dogs, while we retain breeding rights. These dogs are not just part of our program—they’re part of our family, and we take this relationship seriously.

 

We remain deeply involved throughout your dog’s life, supporting you with resources, guidance, and even free grooming services. Our guardian families are not just homes—we become a close-knit community, working together to raise exceptional dogs that will go on to change lives.

How the Guardian Program Works

🐾 You receive a top-quality puppy or adult dog at no upfront cost.

🐾 The dog lives as a cherished companion in your home.

 

🐾 We retain breeding rights, and the dog will come back to us for health testing, breeding, and whelping (if female).  Once the dog completes their breeding career, they are spayed/neutered and remain with you forever as your pet.

Our guardian program is very small and highly selective because this is more than just placing a dog in a home. It’s about finding families who truly share our philosophy on raising, training, and loving a dog the way we do. This program allows us to continue our breeding program with the highest ethical standards, while ensuring that each of our dogs lives a fulfilling, family-oriented life from day one.

Why Our Guardian Program is Different

Because we are so hands-on and selective, we only have a very small number of guardian homes. This means that if you’re chosen, you become part of something truly special:

✔ Complimentary Grooming – We take coat care seriously and provide free grooming to ensure our guardian dogs are always well-maintained.

What We Look for in a Guardian home

We are extremely intentional about choosing the right homes, because we know that the success of this program relies on trust, shared values, and commitment. Our ideal guardian:

​

✔ Lives close to us – We require guardians to be within a reasonable driving distance, allowing us to maintain a close relationship with both the guardian and the dog.

✔ Is home often – Goldendoodles are not well-suited for long hours of isolation. We prefer families where someone works from home, has a flexible schedule, or has family members home during the day.

✔ Is committed to training & socialization – We expect guardians to be committed and actively involved in their dog’s training, enrichment, regular socialization, and development.

Basic obedience training is required—the dog should learn foundational skills like leash walking, sit, stay, and recall.

✔ Values proper nutrition – At Doodles with Purpose, we take nutrition seriously because we believe that what a dog eats directly impacts their overall health, longevity, and well-being. While we do not require a raw or homemade diet, we do follow a whole-food, holistic, and homeopathic approach whenever possible and expect our guardian families to maintain a nutrition plan that aligns with our program's standards.

✔ Understands coat care – Goldendoodles require regular brushing and coat maintenance. While we provide free grooming, guardians are responsible for keeping up with maintenance in between appointments.​
